is a RT900 and 1100 considered farm equipment. i ask this because i was wondering if i can drive this on a gravel with out geting in troble by the cops.

Depends on what kind of trouble you're trying to avoid.
At the very minimum, and it depends on the cop at the time (and of course your "standing" in the cop community if you know what I mean) you need a SMV (slow moving vehicle) triangle sign and working flashers.
There is a local guy who had a DUI and lost his license. He decided to drive his lawn tractor around downtown on the sidewalks as transportation. He was okay until he got off the sidewalk and crossed the street---then the cops got him. Then there was another guy in another farming town with a DUI. He was caught operating the big farm tractor driving on the shoulder with a six-pack between his legs. His big mistake was not pulling over---instead he let the police chase him. ....

It would depend on where you live, but for the most part I recommend that you get liability insureance at a minimum. We have quite a few that drive them in my area with out any difficulties yet. Lighting is a must! ....

Once a month our sheriff writes a column in the newspaper and addresses different issues. Last month he did a piece on the use of golf carts, 4 & 6 wheel utility vehicles, and 4 wheel ATVs on the county roads. For the time being it is unlawful to run them on the roads, but you can use the grass along the roads. The state highway in front of our home has tractors, combines, spray rigs, and TLBs on it daily, but all have flashing lights and slow moving vehicle signs on them. The county next to us just voted to let ATVs run on county roads. I would check to see how you local law enforcement officers view your use of utility vehicles and go from there. ....

About 5 or 6 years ago this summer the local John Deere Dealer held a meeting to help farmers better understand what their rights and responsabilitys concerning the movemrnt of farm equipment on public roads. At that time our state DOT had two training officers who worked with trucking companies, farm groups or special permit load haulers, etc. It wasn't long into the meeting till the subject of "Gators" on public roads came up. Unless things have changed since the rule was, it must be a true farm type vechicle, (Gator, Mule, Kubota) these were considered farm machines, four wheelers were not. You must own or operate a farm. Drivers must have a valid drivers licence. Four way flashers, head and tail lights, turn signals were required. With those conditions met you could drive the Gator on any public road in the state of Iowa except an interstate. Just this summer I have met county Deputy Sherriff's cars and State DOT cars, neither geve me a second look. Like a neighbor who beat a ticked he got on his four wheeled on the road to do cattle chores on another farm put it, put a five gallon bucket or a scoop shovel in the back and they leave you alone even on a four wheeler. Back to what Earthwrks said, it depends on the cop. I drove a gator for three years on public roads,no lights, no triagle. Even had an unfriendly neighbor call and report me using the road with an un-registered vehicle. When police saw a vice coming out of the reciever hitch, snow plow on the front, and the back end full of tools, well... I never got much more from cops than a "Hey, how does that thing plow?"
But then again, my hair was pretty short and I had a "Hug a Veteran" sticker on the back. Might have been a different story if I smelled like putuli and had dancing bears everywhere. ....
